Too Cold To Sew….

There was still snow on the rug in my studio from the bottom of my boot, from the day before, when I turned on the heat in my studio this morning.

I let it warm up for a half hour before going in to work.

I was ready of the cold,  dressed in five layers, a scarf, hat and fingerless gloves, but  it was still too cold to get to work.  So I pulled up a fast song from one of my Bellydancing playlists and danced.

That  warmed me up from the inside out.

But when I sat on the stool in front of my sewing machine, I kept sliding off.  It was as if the seat was frozen, I couldn’t squish down into it. I was ready to sew, so I stood up knowing the stool would eventually thaw.

I was ready, but my sewing machine wasn’t.

It slowly chugged along,  trying to get going.  A few stitches in, the dial slipped and suddenly the machine was doing a zig-zag.  After two more tries with the gears slipping and I knew I had to warm up my sewing machine before I’d be using it.

So I brought my machine into the house and put it in front to the wood stove.  Bud was a little put off.  I guess I put it too close to the place he likes to sleep when, especially when it’s cold. Which is with the front half of his body on the hearth.

I left Fate in the house, no reason she should be curled up sleeping in my cold studio, went back to my studio and figured out what fabric I’d be sewing on next.

It was probably about 20 minutes later that I went back into the house to get my sewing machine.  Back in my studio it was ready for work.

I got a bit more done than in the photo below, but it was too dark to take a picture at that point.

My Bird quilt is sold.

Joann who is buying it told me…”I asked my husband what I was getting for my birthday, and he said, “Anything you want.”  I thought to myself, ‘I would like another one of Maria’s lovely quilts.'”

Well, that made me smile.
