Zip always comes around when I’m stacking wood. Whether it’s in the summer, getting ready for the winter, or in the winter when I’m loading wood on the cart to bring into the house.
I know Zip sleeps in the wood shed. It’s where Flo used to sleep and Minnie too, before she lost her leg. It’s one of those warm spaces that cats find. Zip quickly found every place that Minnie and Flo used to sleep when he came to the farm.
When we got Zip I refurbished the box that Flo used in the woodshed. I know he sleeps there on the coldest nights because I’ve seen his footprints in the snow. He prefers it to the heated cat house in the barn.
This afternoon, when I was bringing more wood into the house, Zip in the woodshed with me as usual.

As the days get colder, I take the wood Zip uses to climb on to get to the warmest part of the woodshed, which is an outdoor attic space over the kitchen. But he finds his way with out without the stacked wood.

When the wood is all gone, like Flo, Zip will climb up and down the shelf built into the wall. Or climb on up and down the wall itself.

Zip in his attic bedroom in the woodshed.
