I can’t think of a better way to spend Christmas Eve than in my studio. My Bird quilt was calling to me and I dedicated the day to working on it.
It’s almost done, I just have to sew those bottom pieces on and then I’ll put a thin border around the whole thing (not sure what color yet).

I listened and occasionally danced to the Paul Winter Consort, Silver Solstice as I worked.

These are a few details from the quilt.

I kept trying to find a place for that patchwork of fabric on the bottom right. I made it along with the other patchwork pieces in November when I sewed a bunch of scraps together.
I finally found it’s place on the bottom of the quilt.
Strangely, it fit perfectly, lining up that little piece of floral fabric and the solid red with what I had sewn on the quilt earlier. When I saw that, I had no doubt it was meant to be there.
Jon and I are going away for a couple of days after Christmas to the inn in Vermont where we have been going almost every year since before we were married. And I won’t be working tomorrow, so I won’t get back into my studio till Monday.
I like knowing my quilt will be there waiting for me.

Maria, I love your little ‘quilts within quilts’, where detailed areas could almost stand on their own as separate pieces of art. They come as surprises and their mix of colors/patterns and shapes deserve some attention. I find the most surprising things not seen at first like tiny borders and edges and separating lines of other colors and patterns. TY for posting the different areas of the quilt for my eyes to enjoy.
Enjoy your Vt. Time.
“Quilts within quilts”, I like that Lois. It’s those parts I like most of all, the ones that you have to really look to see. Ig guess like my walks in the woods. But they are the most fun to create too.
What a beautiful quilt. It has a very calming, cozy vibe to it. Enjoy your time in Vermont, Maria!
Thanks Sheila. :)
