It’s been a long time since I made a Flying Vulva Potholder.
I came up with the idea eight years ago. It was almost eerily timely when I got the email from Tom asking if I could make a Flying Vulva Potholder for his wife.
I went right to my plastic bin full of doilies and pulled out four that I thought might work. I did practice. It’s been so long, but it was like riding a bike. It came right back. Starting in the middle and finishing up with the wings.
Then I got out my markers and tested the colors. What a joy it was feeling the power and freedom that creating this image brings me.
There are some some potholders that I can’t or don’t want to repeat, but I will alway make another Flying Vulva Potholder.

That is a perfect way of using a dolly!
I thought so too KJ. I’m glad you saw that. I had some of them for years, thinking that one day I’d find the perfect image to stitch onto them. And finally it happened. A tribute to all the women who make those doilies and bringing them into the present day at the same time.
