I reach for my iPhone to take a picture of Fanny speckled with snow, but it isn’t in my pocket.
I bring my phone with me to the barnyard everyday, except Saturday. I don’t even want to be tempted to take a picture on Saturday, my day off, my Sabbath from technology.
But this morning, even though I knew my phone wasn’t in my pocket, I kept reaching for it.
So I did my work putting hay in the feeders, filling up water bowls, checking on the chickens, and making sure Zip’s heated cat house was warm to the touch.
And although, each time I couldn’t take a picture, I may have pined a bit for the days before iPhones, I know I couldn’t do my work, live this life I’ve chosen without it.
So when I was done with the morning chores I got my phone from the house and came back out looking for a picture.
And didn’t it make me smile to see the glowing yellow sky pocketed with pale blue between the painted clouds.
And then, Zip, snow cat that he is, on the chair under the apple tree, looking for me to pay him some attention too.
