Walking In The Winter Swamp

I saw many of these kinds of hairy roots growing off of branches in the swamp. Some low to the ground and others high up in the tree.

I walked in the swamp where in the spring, summer and fall, the water is high and the mud thick.  Where the frogs are defending and the mosquitos relentless.

I have not seen this particular berry growing anywhere else on my walks in the woods.

But now the water is frozen, thick enough to walk on.  So I was able to go where I had never been before.

An almost succulent-like moss growing at the base of some of the trees.

To see those wonders that are usually hidden from me.

And leave my footprints with the other animals who walk there.  For a little while anyway.

  1. Beautiful images. That succulent -like moss looks a little like quilling (which I would like to try my hand at. ) How nice to be able to walk on water

    1. I had to google quilling and realized I did know what it was, just not what it was called. I can definitely see that. They were very small but sturdy. And I was thinking that I was walking on water too!

  2. I love to see animal and bird tracks in the snow. It is so exciting to me to who was there in walking. It’s almost like a secret out in the open. A secret because how often do we see those who the tracks.

    1. Oh I love that Laurie, the idea of seeing a secret! You’re so right and they don’t last long either which makes it extra special to see.
