The words came to me while I was meditating, promise of the sun… I saw yellow.
In my studio I went looking for the fabric. I knew I didn’t want a bright yellow for the bottom piece, something gold. But I didn’t have any memory of having fabric that color.
But that didn’t mean it wasn’t somewhere in my stash. And, if it wasn’t, if I couldn’t find it, maybe the pillow wasn’t meant to be.
So I pulled out the stack of yellow fabric from my shelf.
On the surface none of it looked right. But wadded up between two yellow prints was the toothy gold linen I wanted.
At first I didn’t recognize it, but then I saw it was three yellow napkins that I had bought at a thrift store years ago. I was going to use them as napkins, but the color was so wonderful, I brought them to my studio.
It’s almost as if they were lost all these years, but showed up at just the right time.
The bee and sunflower fabric was perfect for the life sustaining sun. The rest followed.
I stitched the sun on red with yellow thread then added a sparkly yellow metallic thread that glitters in the light. I wasn’t able to get a picture of that sparkle, but it’s there.
I don’t know if the words came into my head because the day is overcast and gray, or if it’s the gloomy state of our country. But for what ever reason, the promise of the sun gave me a lift, a spark of brightness, a feeling of warmth, good cheer and hope.
My Promise of The Sun Holding Pillow is 7″x15″. It is sold. It is $75 + shipping. If you are interested in it you can email me at [email protected]. I take checks, PayPal and Venmo.
I couldn’t catch the shine of the metallic thread I stitched into the sun in my photo. But it sparkles in the light.
