When the new heated water bowl was delivered I rearranged White Hens home in the barn to give her more room to move around. Not that she seems all that interested in exploring.
Maybe after being away for five days she’s just happy to have a warm safe place to rest for a while.
I added two hay stacks (she hasn’t moved off the hay onto the floor of the barn even though she can) so she is no longer roosting over her water and food bowls, which keeps them cleaner.
And not only doesn’t the water freeze, but it stays a bit warm, too.
White hen continues to talk to me when I visit her. Cooing with little clucks. She doesn’t seem to miss the other hens. But then why would she when they were pecking at her.
I no longer feel the need to chase Kitty and Anne out of the chicken house. With just the two of them in there, it seems cozy to me rather than crowded (As Jon was happy to point out, that was more about me than them).
Although I did see their foot prints in the snow on Tuesday. Big chicken feet all the way into the drive way and around the barn. And I heard one of them clucking like they were laying an egg last week.
But no eggs yet.
Every morning I look in the roosting box just in case. The days are getting longer and soon they’ll be getting warmer too.

I love the updates Maria. Thank you.
