The ice storm had us up early this morning. The wet slush was easier to walk on than the hard ice we’ve been dealing with for days. Now the snow has a thick frozen cover on it, hard to walk in and worse to shovel.

But tomorrow there’s supposed to be more ice and wind, so Jon and I decided it was best to get the generator out today just in case the power goes out.
I wasn’t sure I’d be able to push it from the barn to the house, but wanted to try before calling for help.
First I took care of the animals.

At first the donkeys were reluctant to come out of the barn. But once I shoveled out their feeders and filled them with hay they didn’t mind getting wet.
While I was out, the precipitation changed from snow to the rain to varying sizes of frozen rain.

I was able to get the generator to the house, but we had to call Mike to help us get it started. It kept chugging like an old car that just won’t turn over.
We’re lucky to have Mike to call. He lives close by and at the times we need help most he is there. Mike worked on the generator a while and added a fuel injector cleaner to the gas. It didn’t take him long to get it going.
Now there isn’t much more to do than keep up with the shoveling. And we can feel good that if the power does go out, we’ll be ready.

I’m glad you and Jon have these systems in place. Peace to you tonight.
