I got out of the car in front of the Cambridge CO-OP and heard the crow. I looked up and sat it in the tree right next to the building. It was making a hollow clucking sound, repeated again an again.
Across the street was another crow drinking from a puddle in the middle of the road.
As a car turned onto the road, the crow casually walked a few feet to the right as if it knew the car was going to wait for it to move. When the car was gone, the crow was right back at the puddle.
There are at least two crows who live around or maybe just like to hang around the Co-op.
I’ve no doubt they recognize the regulars who shop there and after all these years, I’m just getting to know them.
During one snow storm I took a bunch of photos of one of the crows who was in the parking lot.
It was a perfect crow silhouette, black bird on white sow with no other distractions. The crow gave me a few poses. I took the pictures with the intention of using them to draw the crow.
I just thought of the photos again a couple of weeks ago. Since then I’ve been practicing drawing them.
I want to get so comfortable drawing a crow that it comes easy enough that I don’t have to think about it.
