I went to The Mansion today to teach my monthly art class. I missed last month because there was a Covid outbreak.
That’s all over now, but when I got to the Mansion, I found out there was a mistake, and I hadn’t been put on the schedule.
I went to the activities room anyway, just to say hello. Rachel was there and we talked a bit. Then, on the way out I spoke to another of the women who is a regular in my class.
But I could see and sense that things had changed once again.
This place which was once so homey now felt empty. There used to be so much life in the hallways, activity room and great room. People sitting around talking to each other or watching movies together. Even going on trips or out to lunch.
I had the sense that the few people who were still working there, were wearing out.
As I walked down the front steps and to my car, I had a sinking feeling. I made plans to go back the second week in April to have my class then, but I can’t help wondering what I’ll find when I do.

Heartbreaking. It was a welcoming place for folks who really needed a safe harbor. I am so sorry this has happened. Sending peaceful thoughts.
Thanks Maggie.
That’s so said to here. That was place seemed full of life and you and Jon brought joy and hope to the people.
I know Laurie. It’s been happening for a while, but it’s the worse I’ve seen it.
