The Grass Turning Green

Merricat, Kim and Constance grazing under the pine tree in the back pasture

This afternoon I went to the back pasture to sit by the pond.  When the sheep and donkeys had finished their hay, they came to see me.

Maybe they thought I had more to feed them.

In a way they were right, with the rain and warmer weather the ground is a fuzz of green.  Soon I’ll close off the back pasture so the animals don’t graze on the sprouting grass and kill it before it gets a chance to grow.

They won’t be happy about it.

Yesterday Lulu, Fanny and the sheep gathered at the gate to the north pasture whining to get in.  The grass isn’t nearly long enough for them to eat.  Not that they couldn’t, they nibble the tiniest sprouts with great satisfaction.
