Drawing White Hen At The Mansion

Rachel and her drawing of White Hen.  She gave her a house to live in, an egg and Zip to keep her company.

It was good to be back at The Mansion today.  I hadn’t been there for two months because of Covid and a scheduling mix up.

But when I arrived today there were five people sitting around the table, waiting for me.  The place a more life to it than when I was last there.

And when Claudia showed up I had a feeling of relief.  Claudia has been coming to my classes for years.  While so many other people come and go, Claudia has always been there.  I know one day she might not be, but I will enjoy her company as long as she is.

We talked a bit after not seeing each other for so long then got to work.

Today’s class was inspired by White Hen.  As I told her story of showing up after five days of going missing in the middle of winter everyone was relieved that she turned up.  I showed them some photos of her and they loved that she had a safe place to stay in the stall in the barn.

Then using basic shapes, I showed everyone how to draw a chicken.

Betty and her hen drawing.  Even though drawing doesn’t come easy to Betty she always shows up and is enthusiastic and cheerful.

Half way thought the class two people had to leave, but then two more people showed up.

Toni’s chicken

Toni came to the class late, so she was still working on her chicken when I left.

Claudia and her drawing

Claudia, as usual, did her own thing.  She loves to draw  and I leave her on her own to follow her own muse.   She takes her drawing seriously and is thoughtful and intense about it.

Art only really got into drawing his chicken once I put some wheels on her.  He loves cars and trucks, they always motivate him.

These days, The Mansion is always in flux.  But today was a good day and I was glad to be back.   I made plans with Alyssa, who now does the scheduling to go back next month.
