“Soaring Heart” Holding Pillow

Virginia asked for Purples and Blues.  It was easy to choose the purple velour.  Actually all the colors came together easily.  As if this Holding Pillow just wanted to be made.

Virginia’s heart is healing so the Soaring Heart was a natural.

Part of the process of making my Holding Pillows, is coming up with the image for the small circle on the solid fabric of the pillow.

When I first came up with the idea for Holding Pillows, I saw a complete pillow in my mind.  It came to me in that time between waking and sleeping.  At a moment in my own life when I needed some comfort.

I saw all the colors and even some specific fabrics.  I even knew the size of the pillow.  But the circle that was stitched to the solid piece of fabric  was empty.

So in my mind I played with it a bit and soon an acorn appeared.

I got up that morning and went right to my studio before the image in my mind could fade.  And I made that pillow I saw so clearly in my mind.

I’ve made thirty Holding Pillows since December.  Each one uniquely its own.
