Note From My Studio, “Summer Woods” Holding Pillow

My Summer Woods Holding Pillow is sold.

I sit at my sewing machine, my window lined with acorn tops, my sketch pad on my desk open to my  drawings of flying birds.

My eyes are open but I don’t see what’s in front of me.

I’m looking inside myself to find the  trees that will create the woods I’ll stitch in the small circle on my next Holding Pillow.

OnceI can clearly see the image in my mind, I  turn the page on my sketch pad and do a few quick drawing.

I unscrew the presser foot on my sewing machine and replace it with the free motion presser foot, then lower the feed dogs.  I look through my tread and decide on maroon.  The small piece of tan fabric with a bit of batting and backing is on my worktable waiting.

I know it will take me two or three tries before I get the trees just right as I begin sewing.
