My “Waking Spring” Potholders For Sale

My Waking Spring Potholders for sale in my Etsy Shop.

When I wanted to make some Potholders and was stuck, I finally gravitated to the birds.  And they showed me the way.

I had some Charley Harper birds and a few song birds.  I didn’t know what either of the Harper birds were until I looked them up.

Great Auk Penguin Potholder

The bird floating in the water is a Great Auk. A type of penguin that was hunted into extinction by the mid 1800s because it couldn’t move quickly on land so was easy to shoot. The extinction of this penguin is a lesson we humans are still learning and a reminder to be better humans.

California Condor

The other Harper bird is a California Condor.   By 1987 the only California Condors lived in captivity.  They area the story of human trying to do good.  They have been reintroduced into the wild but are still endangered.

Pink Peace Potholder

I made the Pink Peace Potholder from a piece of fabric that I found in a bag of scraps that Hannah sent me.  I used some pink cats on either side of the peace sign. I couldn’t’ help thinking of the Vice President talking about childless women and their cats, who he said were miserable in their lives and  only wanted to make the country miserable too.  I can’t help thinking about who is really making the country, and the rest of the world, miserable now.

Sowing Seeds Dandelion Potholder

The dandelion gone to seed came from some fabric that Carolyn gave me.  Those cheerful dandelions sow their seeds wherever  they can.  Even in the most inhospitable place. With spring coming, I see them as a symbol of each of us sowing seeds that bring beauty to the world.

My Potholders are $25 each + $5 shipping for one or more. You can buy them in my Etsy Shop, just click here.
