First I want to thank everyone who has bought my wool over the past five days. It was a slow start, but now half of my wool is sold and I have reasonable hopes for the rest of it.
It’s a huge relief .
But something else happened when I worried that I might not be able to sell my wool. It made me think about what caring for our sheep and making yarn from their wool means to me. And how it is such a big part of my life and my work.
It has become who I am and when I felt that might be threatened, it was devastating.
Feeling that way myself, opened me up even more, to understanding what other people might be feeling who are having a difficult time emotionally and financially.
So what I decided to do was to offer 8 skeins of my wool to people who can’t afford it, at a discounted price, of $20 per skein.
As soon as I came up with the idea, I began to feel better, more hopeful. It’s a kind of offering, a way of giving thanks. But, I thought of how we (all of you reading this, me, Jon and farm) are a community and how community works by helping each other when we can.
I get help covering my costs at the same time as benefitting the people who otherwise can’t afford my wool at full price.
This how it will work…
Each skein will be $20 and I will pay the shipping, within the US, if needed. I won’t be posting these skeins in my Etsy Shop and a check is preferable for payment to avoid the fees. There will be a limit of two skeins per person.
You can email me at [email protected] and the wool will go to the first people who email me until the eight skeins are sold.

What weight is your yarn? It looks to be worsted. Do you have a suggested gauge for knitting your yarn?
I love knitting, but I have trouble imagining what I could make. It would be really neat if supporters of your blog who are also knitters, were to post items they have made with your yarn, or patterns they plan to use to make a garment with your yarn.
I think this would be a great way to get more customers for your yarn. Many of us pay attention to the source of our yarn. Finding yarn from sheep so well loved and cared for greatly enhances the knitting and wearing experience. And we share our enthusiasm with other knitters.
That’s a nice idea Polly about getting ideas and patterns about what to make from the yarn. I’m not a knitter so I’m not really helpful. I have put up some pictures of the pieces that people have made from my yarn in the past. And I have received some of them as gifts. I will post them. Thanks so much for your ideas.
I used to knit when I was younger but never finished the projects because I didn’t have much experience. I don’t even know how much is in a skein of yarn. Every time I see you come out with your yarn, I keep telling myself I’m going to buy some. How much is a skein of yarn going to make? Is one skein enough to knit a very long scarf? Thank you.
HI Karen, Thanks for asking. You can make a small scarf with one skein of yarn. I too used to knit when I was younger but haven’t in year. You’d think I would having my own yarn, but I’ve never gotten back into it.
