I just don’t have the words today. I keep thinking it’s Friday, my mind and body are ready for my day off.
I did take a short walk in the woods and took some pictures of what I saw…

Remember the snow fleas I wrote about a last month?
They don’t come out just in the snow. They are always around, doing what so many insects do, helping to decompose the dead stuff and rebuild the soil. It’s just easy to see them in the snow, tiny specks of black on white.
Today I saw them on a deer bone that spent the winter on a moss covered rock.
Unlike other fleas, they aren’t interested in people or animals. So could get close enough to take pictures of them and not have to worry about bringing them home with me.

Except for the old dump pile, there isn’t a lot of garbage in the woods. But every so often I find a beer can or an arrow under the leaves. Usually I pick them up and throw them away, but today I left the faded beer can where it was and took a picture of it instead.

A pool of water from the day’s rain in a hole in a tree.

Zinnia and Fate came with me on my walk today.

Snow fleas( Hypogastrura nivicola) are not fleas, they are springtails which are one of the many “decomposers” in our environment that break down dead material. Without them and the many others, we would become buried in it.

Ah thanks for the clarification Marianna. All those beings at work keeping the world going and I don’t know about most of them. Thanks for the link too!
