It took me so long to find the thin piece of fabric to go around my Drawn Hankie quilt. When I found it, as much as I knew it was right, I hesitated. I couldn’t help jumping ahead, thinking about what would come next.
But as always happens I couldn’t know what came next until I committed to creating my quilt one step at a time. No planning here, just a lot of trust.
So I finally gave in and sewed the pinkish-red flower fabric around the hankies. From a distance, out of the corner my eye, the strip of vintage fabric looked like lace.
As I was cutting it, I saw the little cotton ties, so I know the fabric was once the back of quilt.

It took me just as long to figure out the next step.
But when I went through my cupboard of linens, I came up with the napkins Joan, who volunteers at the Cambridge Food Pantry gave me, along with two table runners and a very fancy apron.
I sandwiched the same pinkish/red flower fabric between them and then sewed them on.

Above is one of the table runners and one of the napkins with the little pink flower on it. Below is the fancy apron.

After I sewed the border on, I was once again stumped what to do next. Luckily, it didn’t take quite as long to figure it out. I didn’t get to sew on what comes next, but I will sleep well tonight not having to wonder about it.

This is how I left my quilt today. Tomorrow I hope to finish the top of it.

Stunning
Thanks Judy. :)
What a beautiful quilt! It brings back memories of my gramma and the farm! There were always pretty quilts on the beds, most made from flour sacks with hand made lace around the edge. You make such lovely pieces of art!
Oh lace and flour sacks, that’s a great combination Josie. And thank you!
