On Thursday, Ian will come to shear the sheep.
I’m thinking I’d like to let them out to graze a few days before he comes so their wool will have a chance to rid itself of hay. Because when I feed the sheep hay, some inevitably ends up in their wool.
They’re also bringing back some thorny bushes and twigs from the back pasture which has trees and brambles that the other two pastures don’t. If they’re grazing then I would close off the back pasture and let the grass grow there without them constantly eating it down.
I think that this should be easy by now, this decision of when to let them graze.
But of course it’s different every year depending on the rain, sun and temperature. And even though each year I learn more and become more confident, it still sometimes feels like a guessing game to me.
