Judy sent me two sarongs and asked me to make them into pillows. She will give them to her mother for mother’s day.
The first thing I did was cut them apart.
When I did, I found they had a kind of cotton interfacing I’d never seen before. Just right to use for the pillows I would be making for Judy and that I could also use in my Holding Pillows.
Judy asked for Pillows would be long, the kind you would use for support when sitting. I use one myself, (the holding pillow I made for Jon actually) so I knew just what she was looking for and what size to make it.
Use just the fabric I sent, or cut it up and add more to it, Judy wrote. But the fabric was enough and they worked so well together. The smaller flower print brings out the graphic impact of the large flowers.
A kind of complex simplicity.
I finished the first pillow today. Here it is front and back, or back and front which every the person using it chooses….
Tomorrow I’m going for a walk with my friend Jackie to look for Lady Slippers in a place where we know they grow. But on Thursday, I’ll get back working on Judy’s second pillow.

Ah Maria, these are so lovely. It’s a beautiful fabric but how you created the pillow designs highlights the beauty of the fabric. And there are so many options. The backs are as lovely as the fronts. I would be flipping them around for new combinations endlessly. What fun! I’m sure Judy will be delighted.
Oh Thanks Lois, It’s true there were so many option, even with just the two fabrics. I sometimes wonder how I decide, but then when I’m working, moving fabric around, suddenly it just feel right and I go for it.
