We finally got an egg and I put it on the ground for safe keeping until I was done feeding the hens. But Mean Hen ran up to it and pecked a hole in it. So she had a fresh egg for breakfast instead of me.

You could make an egg holder and attach it to your chicken coop. A small bucket or basket, but drill a small hole at the bottom so rain doesn’t sit in it. Then your egg (make it big enough if you get two eggs one day) will sit safely in the basket until you are ready. No accidental breaking it, Zinna eating it or a hen pecking it!
That’s a good idea Kristy. I’m going to have fun thinking about just how I’ll do that. And even better, once I do my eggs will be whole. :)
