We were already in the woods when it started to thunder. My whole life I’ve loved and feared thunder storms.

But today, when I heard the thunder I wasn’t afraid. It just felt to me like it was part of the woods.

It didn’t last long, and eventually even the rain stopped.

Somehow I was able to leave my worries behind.

I didn’t think about being wet or dirty, being cold or the threat of ticks.

I lost track of time…

…It was as if I were in a trance.

The Magic of the Woods. If you Google “walking in nature calms the mind” – you will see so much positive research about the effects of walking in nature – but I prefer to think of it as Magic.
Beautiful essay, Maria.
Oh I like magic too Peg. So much research to tell us what we already know (or at least once knew) if we have the opportunity to experience it. I suppose for so many it has been lost.
