I have two lists of things that need to get done around the house and farm this summer. Some I will do and some we will get help with.
This weekend I did the first on my list. I painted the floor of the front porch.
Ever since we had the house painted blue (some years ago), I’ve been wanting to paint the floor of the front porch dark green. It was gray, which was fine when the house was white, but it disappeared against the blue.
Still I probably wouldn’t have repainted the floor if didn’t need it. But the boards were bare in some places and exposed to the elements. If they weren’t painted soon, the floor would begin to rot.
I had half a gallon of dark green paint in the basement and was determined to use and not have to buy more. I may have stretched it a bit thin, but I’m not as particular about such things as I used to be.
For me the imperfections of our house is part of what makes it feel like home.
Some of the other things on my list are spot painting the house and my studio where the paint is badly peeling and replacing the roof on the chicken coop.
Even though it’s small, I’ll give myself a whole weekend to do the roof of the chicken coop. It has cedar shake shingles on it now but we’ve decided to replace them with asphalt shingles which are less expensive and will last longer.
We still have the whole summer and fall ahead of us, but I’m not convinced I’ll do everything on my list.
I have a way of putting such things off, until I’m in the mood.

Ah! The art of procrastination!
You are NOT alone Maria!!
Glad to hear it Vikki!:)
Maria, I really like that dark green floor!
Thanks Eileen, I’ve been picturing it so long in my mind, it looks to me like it’s always been that way.
There is a Zen saying “First, do nothing…” it is the “ultimate form of active awareness. You are not putting off, rather doing what should be done according to your deeper soul, spirit. It will always be the right choice.
Ah, Peg, I like like that. And it rings true. I find more and more that things happen when it is time. I’m learning to trust that. But your words are a helpful reminder. thank you.
I’m still learning too! A lifetime process. Best not to be too hard on ourselves!
Oh, yes, good to remember Peg!
