Pruning my trees and shrubs actually helps them. There is a huge tree in my front yard that, if not pruned twice a year, could lose branches naturally or during a wind storm, falling on my home or passersby. Going forward, perhaps this is something to consider with your apple tree since some of its branches are hanging over your barnyard. I’m glad that your animals were not hurt.
