Fate is the only dog I’ve ever had that loves to go to the Vet.
She’s so happy to see all the people who work there. She wags her tail after the techs stick a needle in her and take her blood. She runs for a cuddle from the Vet no matter which one we happen to see. Her skin might quiver a bit when she gets her vaccinations but she’s still happy to hang around after and gently takes a treat from the person who just stuck her.
As I wait for the techs and doctors to come into the room I look at the photos on the wall. Jon took all three of them and Fate, only a year old, is in two of them.
Our Border Collie Red, who died some years ago, is herding the sheep in one picture. Kim is the only sheep in the photo that is still alive. I look at the sheep and name them. Zelda and Liam look a lot alike in the photo, but I know that Zelda is at the head of the flock, and Liam had his ears pointing straight up.
It’s a funny thing how I can look at pictures of Red and the sheep who have lived on the farm anytime I want, but I don’t. Yet when I see them at our Vets office, I can’t help but stare.
“There you are Fate,” I say as she looks up at me, pointing to her in the photo.
The Vet tells me that Fate has the heart of an athlete. It’s all that running around the sheep I think. At eleven years old she has no complaints that I’m aware of .
She’ll be around for a while longer.

(Thank you!)

Maria I cannot believe that Fate is eleven years old!
I know Peg, I can hardly believe it either.
