My Yellow and Purple Meditation Mat Gets A Dancing Spiral From India

I began my day in my studio by sewing more strips of fabric onto the beginning of my latest Meditation Mat.

Then turning it sideways…

Once again, some fabric that I brought back with me from India,  was about to work its way into one of my Meditation Mats.  It was the spiral made of  dancers that called to me.

The spiral needed to go in the middle of the strips of fabric.  So I cut the strips in half and added some more to the spiral to get it where I wanted it.

But once I had done that, I saw that it needed a pencil line of purple around it.

So I took it apart, sewed in that thin border, then found I liked the strips of fabric going in the original direction, which was horizontal.

With my  yellow scraps were lots of yellow triangles.  I didn’t think I would use them, but suddenly  they were just what I needed.

And the strip of fabric with the eyes was just the right size to go above the spiral….

I had cut a section from either side of the spiral when I decided to turn the whole piece on its side.  Now I used the thicker section on the bottom of the Meditation Mat.

When  I did,  those yellow triangles become sky and the purple print between them became mountains.

This Meditation Mat has already taken longer for me to make than any of the others.  But at the end of the day I love what I see.

You can see that I used the thinner strip  that I cut off from the strips of yellow and purple fabric and sewed it on top of the mat.

Now there is just a bit more to do before the top of my latest Meditation Mat will be done.  A little more on the top or bottom or maybe both, then a border around the whole.
