I began hand stitching the tree on my new fiber painting today. First I laid out the pieced of appliqué that I removed from the quilt, then I began sewing them down.
Now it’s hanging on my wall where I can work in the details, like the the smaller branches at the tree top.
I want the tree to have some texture, so I left some of the threads from the original appliqués and and allowing the points of the fabric to protrude. In the way that the bark on Shagbark Hickories do.
This is the tree before I added more branches, but you can see the basic shape of her.
