More Than A Year Of Morning Meditations

I have been doing an hour long meditation, at least five days a week,  for over a year now.

I usually take the weekends off, which in a way sounds strange, but as much as I’ve come to depend on the prospect of that quiet hour before I go to work, it isn’t necessarily easy.

Sometimes stuff comes up in my meditations that I’ve kept deep inside of me for a reason.  Mostly that it’s too painful to remember.

Then there are the revelations.  They are seldom, but when they come it’s ultimately a joy to receive them.

But mostly, I find that when I sit in meditation, my mind goes from one thing to another.  From what I need to do that day to random memories that pop up.    I try to remember not  to indulge them, to let them pass through me and float away into the wilds around me.

My morning mediations  haven’t been a magic pill that makes me peaceful and calm, (all thought there are moments).  It’s more that, overall, I’m less anxious and more able to stay calm in situations that before would have rattled me.  I’m a better listener and have more awareness of my thoughts and feelings.

Meditation has become a familiar place I can go  that brings me  a sense of security in myself.

  1. Maria, meditation is a very personal experience for everyone.

Even monks say often including tha Dali Lama, it isn’t about having to have a still quiet mind, few do.

It is about the practice, and just as you say when possible to let them pass by and to not indulge.

I honor you for your intention and dedication to your practice

  2. What a great accomplishment! I recently started QiGong which feels like a moving meditation. Looking forward to how I feel after practicing for a year.
