I was already in bed when Jon saw that there was a frost alert.
“What about the rest of the week,” I asked him, thinking if this was it, if there was going to be more frost, I’d accept that it was time to let go of the flowers.
But it was just for the night, the following nights would be in the 50s.
So I gathered our sheets and went outside, the almost full moon lighting the way. I covered the dahlia garden, the plants on the back porch, and the dahlia’s, marigolds and zinnia’s surrounding the back step.
I brought in my cacti and succulents and the Dracaena and the other plant (whose name I don’t know) that I’d pruned this summer.

All the pieces of the Dracaena stem that I cut and stuck into the pot are sprouting. And the other plant (below) that I cut and stuck in the soil is growing too, as well as sprouting from the stem I cut down.

It was 32degrees this morning so I lit a fire in the wood stove and meditated inside with Jon.
The day turned warm, a clear blue sky and bright warm sun. It was warmer outside the house than in when Jon and I ate lunch on the back porch.
Later I went to my vegetable garden to see if there was anything there to pick. I got a medium sized zucchini, some kale and a single cherry tomato (which I ate).
Fall has arrived, not only officially, but in spirit too.
Cool night, a warm sun, and the flickering of shadows and light all day long as the sun dances with the maple and lilac leaves outside my studio window.

Even the flowers need a little bedtime tuck in when the frost rolls in.
Sleep tight.
Don’t we all Loraine! :)
I don’t know if it’s intentional or simply serendipitous but the colors, contrasts and configurations of your porch and door are as captivating as one of your quilts! Why am I not surprised? :)
I feel like there are quilts all over the place Cheryl. :) I love that you picked up on the that.
