Yoni Tree And Me

I pressed my hand against the rotting piece of tree that jutted straight up from the roots to the top of the Yoni opening.  It was damp and spongy.  It felt wrong to me.  Like a door blocking what wanted to be an opening.

I pushed on the soft wood and it gave under my flattened hand like a loose tooth.  With the slightest more pressure, it broke off under my palm.   I pulled it out of the tree, cleaning up the other loose pieces of rotting wood too.

Whensteppedped back and looked at what I had done, I knew I wanted to climp into the new space I  made.

I don’t usually mess with nature in this way.  I will prop of a small fallen tree after a windstorm, but I tend not to interfere with the natural process of the woods working her magic.

So I don’t know what it was that compelled me to dislodge this door, but once it was gone, the Yoni was too welcoming to resist.   I wanted to rest my head in the rounded opening of the tree.  The part that reminded my of the clitoris in my drawings of the Flying Vulva.

I’ve sat inside trees before.

There are a few in the woods where I walk that are big enough for me to fit into.  I like to pretend I am the tree.  To try to “see” what it sees and “feel” what it feels.

Last week I took a selfportrait under the arch of a Yoni tree, too small for me to fit into.  That’s what gave me the idea for another self portrait.

So I found a small rotting stump a few feet away and carved out a groove to set my iphone in.  Then I set the ten second timer and climbed inside the tree.  I did this again and again, hoping one of the photos would capture what I was feeling.

I wanted to be an orgainc part of the tree.

Jon posted the photo on his blog yesterday.  It was his “getting” it that helped me see that it worked just in the way I wanted it to.

The Yoni Tree I Know So Well….

Yoni Tree Potholder

We have three giant maples growing on the side of the house.  The one in front of my studio has a Yoni created by the two main branches (which are as big as trees themselves) twisting themselves around each other.

Spider webs guard the Yoni opening where mushrooms and a little maple tree is growing.

I hung one of my Yoni Potholders on the scaly bark to take a picture of it.

I see that maple tree every time I walk to or from my studio, every time I look out my front window.  We know each other the way I know the crows who live around the farm.   With a familiarity that borders on the mundane, yet with a little attention, awe-inspiring.

I have a few Yoni Tree Potholders in my Etsy Shop,  each one comes with one of my Yoni Tree Pins.   Just click here to see and buy them.

Yoni Tree Potholders and A Free Yoni Tree Pin

My latest forest of Yoni Tree Potholders for sale in my Etsy Shop.

Yoni Trees, with their vulva-like openings, reflect the enduring feminine power of our mother earth.

These Yoni Trees Potholders were inspired by my walk in the woods last week, and I made them different this time.  I stitched each one on a vintage linen, and cut out the opening in the tree to reveal the pink or red fabric beneath the linen.

I like the idea of putting Yoni Trees out into the world.  So with each Yoni Tree Potholder, I’m giving away one of my Yoni Tree Pins.

My Yoni Tree Potholders are for sale in my Etsy Shop.  They are $25 each + $5 shipping for one or more. You can see and buy them here.

Making Yoni Tree Potholders

A Yoni Tree potholder I made inspired by my walk in the woods.

I took my walk in the Yoni Woods on Monday.  On Tuesday I sat at my sewing machine trying to capture the essence of the trees I saw the day before.

I wanted to show the movement and groundedness of the trees I saw and emphasize the vulva-like shapes and vaginal-like openings.

Yoni is the Sanskrit word for womb, vulva or vagina.  All the life-creating female sex organs.  It is a symbol of the regenerative powers in nature.  And so, the regenerative powers in ourselves.

I used one of the Vintage linen napkins that Kathy sent me as a ground for my drawing.  I put a piece of solid pink fabric under it and my cotton batting under that.  Then, I stitched a tree.

I cut out the white linen from the Yoni shape revealing the pink fabric under it… …then stitched the Yoni fruit…

…and colored them in with permanent marker.  Then I added the insulated batting and backing and sewed it all together.

I made four more Yoni Trees but I haven’t sewed them all together yet.

I had the urge to make some patchwork potholders using embroidered linens and just finished those up this morning.  But I’ll get them all made into potholders and have them for sale in my Etsy Shop early next week.

Yoni Tree Inspiration

There is a tree in the woods where I walk that looks like a woman in a bussel skrit.  Her trunk is so heavy, rounded and thick as it goes into the earth.  She is a grounded tree.  And whenever I pass her I always stop and say hello.  Sometimes with a gentle touch, and other times by leaning against her.

I was thinking of her and the apple tree in our yard, outside my studio window,  when I made this Yoni Tree for a potholder.

I stitched a few Yoni Trees today.  I’ll make them into potholders next week and sell them in my Etsy Shop.

I stitched these and two more Yoni Trees on these linen napkins.  I was inspired by the small Yoni flower that someone hand-stitched on the napkins before me.

Yoni Tree Buttons For Sale

Yoni Tree Button for sale in my Etsy Shop.

I have a few new pieces for sale in my Etsy Shop. One of them is my Yoni Tree button based on my Yoni Tree fabric painting.  It’s 1 3/4″x 2 3/4″ and is $3 including shipping.  Or if you buy one of my Yoni Tree Posters, I’ll send a button along with it for free.

Yoni is the Sanskrit work for vulva, vagina or womb.

You’ll  begin to see just how many of  these divine trees there are, once you become aware of them.    I just saw another Yoni tree on my walk in the woods yesterday.  The thing is, she’s right on the path I always walk, yet I never really noticed her before.  I guess I was ready to see her.

I sold my Yoni Tree potholders pretty quickly, now I’m thinking of making another inspired by her.

You can see buy my Yoni Tree buttons and posters here.

Yoni Tree Potholders And Buttons

Yoni Tree Potholder (to be)

I was looking through my stash of linens for some to make a couple of Flying Vulva Potholders and found a few of these linens with the green circle and blue decorations.  I used one of them for a Flying Vulva Potholder, but when I looked at the second empty circle, I saw a tree.

So on the two linens I had left, I stitched Yoni Trees.  I haven’t done any free motion drawing in a while and it felt good to be doing it again.

Yoni Tree II

Just yesterday I got my Yoni Tree buttons (made from my Yoni Tree fabric painting) in the mail and I thought it would be nice to include one button with each potholder.  The buttons are about 1″ wide by 2″ tall.  I’ll probably sell them in my Etsy Shop, but I’ll wait till tomorrow when I can get a better picture in the daylight.

The problem with selling the buttons separately is that the shipping is usually more expensive than the button itself.  I’d have to figure out a way to mail them less expensively.   But I do like giving them away when it makes sense.

I still have to make these Yoni Trees into potholders.  But when I do I’ll sell them in my Etsy Shop, each with their own Yoni Tree Button.

My Yoni Tree Poster For Sale

My Yoni Tree Poster for sale in my Etsy Shop

Yoni is the sanskrit word for vulva, womb, vagina, the sacred place where life comes from.

I was delighted at how well my Yoni Tree fabric painting reproduced on the poster I made of it.  You can see the texture and depth of the doilie tree and the details of the goddess symbols I drew on the the old quilt background.  Even the leaf coins pop.  And the Yoni herself seems a rich and deep part of the tree.

My Yoni Tree Poster is now for sale in my Etsy Shop.  It’s 11×17″ and is $20 including shipping.  You can buy it here.

Yoni Tree Poster

I had a few requests from people to make my Yoni Tree fabric painting into a poster.

So yesterday asked artist and graphic designer,  Sara Kelly to help me with the dimensions and to figure out if I needed a border.  She sent me back this pdf and it seems it’s just the right size, as it is, for a 11×17″ poster.

So I put an order in for 30 posters with A&M Printers (our local printing company) and when I get them back I’ll be selling them in my Etsy Shop.  Unless prices have gone up they’ll be $20 including shipping, just like my Show Your Soul and I Am Enough Posters.

You can see and read more about my Yoni Tree fabric painting here.

Our Yoni Tree

The hens love to sit under our Apple Yoni Tree.

We have one of the most amazing Yoni Trees right in our back yard.

It’s our apple tree.  The one that drops apples in the barnyard for the donkeys and sheep to eat. The one that every kid (and some adults) immediately climb when they come to the farm.

Our apple tree is one of the reasons I fell in love with the farm when we were looking to buy it.  She is a presence and a personality.

I’ve always felt that in the ground beneath her, there’s a crystal cave, a whole magical world that she is a portal to and protects.
