Jon Cleans The Gutter

We only have the one gutter, they generally don’t work so well on old houses, with the kind of snow and ice we get. But we’ve had no trouble with the one over the porch.

Jon has already cleaned the gutter once this fall and will have to do it a couple of more times before the end of the season. But it’s easy to reach with a six-foot ladder.

Usually, I’m the one to go do any job that requires a ladder,  but cleaning the gutter has become Jon’s job.  I’m not sure why he just started doing it one year and now I don’t even think about it anymore.

I always find it interesting how this kind of thing works.   How people in relationships find their chores.

When my High School friend was getting married, her husband-to-be told her she should do the cooking and cleaning and he would do things like barbequing and changing outlets.

We both laughed about it.  I mean how many times do you have to change an outlet.   But the meaning was clear.  There are things men do and things women do.

Jon and I are pretty lucky, it seems he likes to do most of the things I don’t and vice versa.  When it comes to the gutter, I wouldn’t mind cleaning it,  but I’m just as happy to have him do it.

Jon sweeping the leaves he cleared out of the gutter, while Flo gets a drink from the birdbath.
