Kitty And Anne’s First Eggs

Kitty and Anne’s eggs.

Kitty and Anne laid their first eggs just in time to usher in the dark days of winter.

It’s a hopeful way to celebrate Halloween or Samhain as it used to be known.  The time when the veil is thinnest between the worlds of the living and dead.

Kitty and Anne’s eggs were smaller than the older hens eggs and a rich reddish-brown. I boiled them this morning and made an open-faced sandwich for me and Jon with butter and avocado on fitness bread.

I don’t know if the chicks will lay eggs through the winter, but it’s exciting to have even just these two and to know the hens will lay in the nesting box in the coop.

  1. Oh my gosh, after following Jon since the Ed Gulley times, I’ve discovered you!!
I just love reading what you write about, and the pictures of the animals.
I sew and garden, so I appreciate your work! Isn’t it wonderful you found yourself and had the drive to become yourself. Your animals are treasures, and you both take great care of them.
Just due to my husband’s health problems, I too, have been the gardener and the chore doer while he gets groceries and runs errands. I just have to laugh at similarities. Thanks for your rich work

    1. IT’s really lovely to know you’re out there Kathy. Thanks so much for reading and letting me know. Ihope you get some rest in between all you have to do now. I suppose there are a lot of us going through similar things. It’s always nice to know we’re not alone.
