Peaceful Evening

I was forth in line on the phone with the bank.  It was only after I canceled my bank card that I realized the charge they were questioning was legitimate.

That happened over the weekend, now I was waiting to talk to someone to get a new card.  I sat in the dining room, drawing what was in front of me as I waited.   It was my turn before I got to finish the drawing.   I added the last few details while I found out that I could get my same card reinstated.

“Bless you,” I said to the woman on the other end the phone when she told me.  What a good way to start the day.

I woke up anxious this morning, even I’d say, on the edge of panic.  Usually I avoid and procrastinate when it comes to doing my bookkeeping, but this morning the idea of putting numbers into little boxes and getting my money in order was calming.

I worked until 1 then was off to have lunch with my friend Mandy.

I was a little cautious about driving over the mountain to her house because of last nights snow, but the roads were clear and I didn’t think anymore about it till I saw Mandy’s driveway which hadn’t been plowed.

What I  didn’t realize, until I was stuck in her driveway,  was that even though Mandy is only ten minutes away, the snow was deeper at her house than ours.

She didn’t hesitate when I told her I was stuck.  Just picked up the snow shovel and headed out to my car.  It took about a half hour of digging, pushing, putting the floor mats under the wheel and Mandy giving me good directions for us to get the car back on the road.

Since there was no place else for me to park,  I headed home disappointed about having to miss out on lunch together, but  happy to have my car on the road.

Back home, I fed the animals, filled up the water buckets and decided to walk off some of my jitters  in the woods.

I was gone for about a half hour and could hear the sheep even before I could see them.  I was wondering what they were making so much noise about until I saw that Kim had the red bucket, the one I use to haul water, hanging around her neck like a feed bucket.

I had left it in the barnyard after filling up the water, which I don’t usually do.  Kim must have though it had grain in it and got it caught around her neck. She wasn’t in any danger but  it had to be very uncomfortable.

By now I know just what to do when something like this happens.

I went to the barn and got a cup of grain.  As soon as the sheep heard me open the pail with the grain in it they came running.

I put the grain in a bucket in the barn so the sheep would be in a small space.  I closed the door once Kim was inside and as she gobbled up the grain, I pulled the bucket off her head.

Kim is skittish and unlike Asher or Issachar would never have let me take the bucket off her head if she were outside. I’d just end up chasing her around which wouldn’t be good for either of us.    But while she was eating she paid me no mind at all.  She was so focused on the grain, I don’t think she even knew what happened.

Well, I thought, as I put the bucket back in the barn where it belongs,  that’s enough excitement for one day.  I went back in the house, had a cup of tea and finished my work.

Now it’s getting dark.  I’m sitting in the chair in the corner of the living room where I blog from.  The wood stoves are ticking with warmth and  all three dogs are sleeping in a wide circle around me .  Bud is snoring lightly, a gentle soothing hum.

I think it’s going to be a peaceful evening.

  1. A wild woolly day in the kingdom! You deserve an extra cuppa chamomile tonight. Thanks for the blow by blow!

  2. I love your drawing. Your lines are so decisive and confident.
An exciting day indeed! And so beautiful that all three of your adventures concluded in safe and peaceful outcomes for all concerned. May that pattern bode well for other tumults we are all experiencing right now.

    1. Yes, Lori, that would be a really good thing. And thanks about the drawings. I think confidence goes a long way when it comes to drawing, I think it helps the viewer understand that it is all intentional.
