Around here, even people who aren’t superstitious are reluctant to put their snow shovels away until the end of April or beginning of May.
Snow in late spring might not be welcome, but is not unexpected in our part of Upstate New York.
I finally put the snow shovel back in the barn this weekend. I know I may have jinxed us, but I was tried of seeing it there. Everything thing else on the farm says Spring.
Zip doesn’t seem to miss the sheep fleece that he slept on during the winter either. Even on the colder spring days it was too warm for him.
The Back Porch changes with the seasons.
Soon the planters on the porch will be sprouting seeds or full of plants from inside the house.
The perennials in my Back Porch Garden will tower over the slate floor and the garden will be full enough that the hens will move to the fallow Dahlia Garden. It will hum with bees, wasps and flies and everyone but the birds will drinking from the birdbath.
And I’ll be spending my Saturday afternoons reading on the wicker bench with Zip sleeping on my bare feet.

It sounds perfect, Maria.
I understand about the snow shovel! We can get spring snows up until the first part of June. You wouldn’t think so in a salt grass prairie but it has happened more than once around here. The shovel remains in easy access in the garage but is no longer on the front stoop. Spring has sprung and it is wonderful!
Oh June, you have us beat Josie! I’m glad you’re enjoying the spring as I am. :)
