Mean Hen was on her own today. She wandered back and forth from the chicken coop to the bird feeder pecking at the fallen seeds.
When I checked on the chickens this afternoon KittyAnne was in the nesting box, maybe laying an egg.
The hens have spend most the past couple of months in the chicken coop. The snow keeping them inside. But they were out the past two days. And both nights when I went to close the door of the coop, the hens were outside.
It seems unlikely that they forgot their life long routine of going in the coop at night. But I really can’t explain why they’re staying outside.
They were drowsy enough for me to be able to easy pick them up and put them in the coop. It’s no fun chasing a chicken around at night.
I’m going out to close the chicken coop up for the night when I finish blogging. I hope both hens are already inside.

what a beautiful “lace collar” Mean Hen is wearing – worthy of RBG
Of Yes, LoisJean!
This made me think of that expression “all cooped up”. Guess we know where that came from now? Ha!
I think you’re right Karen!
