Walk-About Tomorrow

Fate and the garden

Tomorrow I’ll go on my long-awaited Walk-about with Zach Fisher who is a Tracker among other things.   Jon gave me the Walk-about as a Birthday gift way back in January.  We first tried to do the hike into the woods in March, but it kept getting delayed.

First, it was a snow storm then, an unplanned visit from Zach’s parents.  When he apologized, I said I trusted it would happen at the right time.

But yesterday, waiting to hear back from Zach that it was still on, I was ready to give up on the idea of going at all.

This morning that’s all changed and knowing our plans are going ahead, I’m preparing what I”ll need to bring for the day.  I’ll do a little shopping at the Co-op.  I’ll get bread for my peanut butter and jelly sandwich and a couple of energy bars and fruit.  I’ll also get a Yerba Mate Iced tea for the 2-hour ride home.  I might need a little caffeine kick after a day of walking in the woods.

We’re meeting at a preserve halfway between the farm and where Zach lives.

We’ll probably start the walk by tracking an animal and see where it goes from there.  I told Zach I had a terrible sense so direction and am afraid of getting lost in woods I don’t know. .   So that’s one of the things we’ll work on, “making me feel more comfortable in the woods“, is how Zach put it.

But I really don’t know what to expect.  That’s part of the excitement and fun, doing something that makes me a little uneasy and learning things I can hardly imagine.

  1. You will have a wonderful day! With your sharp eyes and his “tutoring” you’ll learn so many things. There’s nothing like getting out and seeing, hearing and breathing nature to relieve some of the day-to-day pressures. Please take photos if you can.

  2. Have a wonderful time. A walk in the woods fills all the senses.
Cannot wait to hear what you find.
