The hens have been cooped up in the Hen House for weeks.
There was a little reprieve when the snow melted for a few days. But we’ve been getting a dusting of snow everyday since last weeks storm that refreshes the pale ground and keeps the hens from leaving the coop.

I can’t help but think they must be bored.
Mean Hen getting meaner, as she pecks at KittyAnne when she gets close to the birdseed I put in their bowl.
So I scatter the seeds and the dried meal worms on the floor of the coop to give them some space, to give KittyAnne a chance to get some. And to give both hens something to do besides finding food where they expect it.

And I wonder how I spend so much time caring for these two hens, who haven’t laid eggs in months, while our country plays tug of war with itself.
