Walking a New Path

path 1

Some words came to me yesterday and I thought they would make a good wall hanging.  I started working on it today.  It’s about the girl making her own path, knowing her demons and leaving them behind to live her life.

First I stitched the girl on yellow fabric.  Then started working on the background….

path 2

I cut the girl out of the yellow fabric  (I’ve found that it’s a good way to make the girl really stand out, rather than just stitch her directly on the ground color) and will sew her to the maroon ground.  I’ll stitch the words on the orange fabric on the bottom. This is as far as I got today.  I still have work to do to the forest, but my sewing machine started giving me trouble.  The tension, off then on again.  I figured it was a good time to stop.  Sometimes I think my machine picks up when I’m tired and is sending me messages that it’s time to quit.  Or maybe it’s just that I’m tired and I start screwing up.  Either way, it’s the same result….I continue working in it tomorrow.

  1. This is just beautiful…wonderful use of color and fabric pattern (leaves on the forest floor?)…and I love how you kept the yellow background around the girl – it not only makes her stand out, as you said, but she seems to be radiating light…maybe helping her to see her way out of the woods?
